Sundays In My City: Festival of the Winds

At the beginning of spring every year the Festival of the Winds kite festival is held at Bondi Beach.   This year hundreds of kites ranging from tiny home-made paper kites to huge flying octopus battled for air space on a beautiful spring day.

Everywhere I looked were kids running along the beach trying to get there kites to fly. So many dads were reluctant to give up control of their kite to the kids once they had finally managed to get them airborne.  Seems is wasn't just a day for the kids.

Flying Octopus
Giant kites dominated the air.

Dueling Kites
Two kites dances in the sky in tandem.

Felix the Cat
Felix the cat struggled to get in the air.

Kite Fail
Some kites were not so successful.

Bondi Sunset

Have a look at the great posts at Sundays in my City.

  2. Despite the little green kite looking so sad and alone in the sand, it looks like a fantastic day at the beach. Did Felix ever fly?

  3. drx - I don't think it was well advertised this year. I only found out it was on yesterday.

myrelish - Felix went a little higher but I think he may have been more of a wind sock than a kite.

The last shot of the city beyond the beach is gorgeous! I really like how you framed the shot.
